Lincoln, Nebraska

USA / Nebraska / Lincoln /
city, capital city of state/province/region, county seat

Lincoln is the capital and the second-most populous city of the state of Nebraska, after Omaha. Lincoln is also the county seat of Lancaster County and the home of the University of Nebraska. The population was 258,379 at the 2010 census.

Settled in 1856 as the town of Lancaster, made county seat in 1859. The city was chosen as the future state capital of Nebraska in 1867. The state territorial legislature arranged for the city to be named Lincoln, after Abraham Lincoln, in a failed attempt to derail the move due to the pro-Confederate sympathies of many in southern Nebraska.

  • Lincoln is a very nice place to raise kids, like a Norman Rockwell painting with bike trails, youth soccer, youth theatre, you name it. The public schools are excellent and the cost of living is low. At least pockets if not most of Lincoln can be considered a blue oasis in a red state.
  • Lincoln is an awesome city, that just like Omaha, is growing by leaps and bounds. It is a great college city, probaly one of the best in the nation. Lincoln has a diverse economy, and is becoming a major city in its own right, with a great downtown with lots of clubs and restaurants. University of Nebraska is no doubt the best place to watch a college football game. CORNHUSKERS KICK ASS!!!
  • Too many boulevardiers living in Lincoln, bringing too much bouleversement here.
