  • I was stationed at Helemano as part of our ASA unit from 1970 to 1972 and would love to hook up with some of my friends who I was stationed with during that time.
  • lived at Helemano Military reservation 1957 - 1961.. any one there are the same time. We lived in the housing which at that time consisted of 4 8 plex for a total population of 32 families. Not sure how many GI's were there.
  • from what I can find out my Father was stationed there in 1959-60. I'm trying to find out information about the base. He was killed in 1961.
  • I was stationed at Helemano from 1954 to 1957 with the ASA 8605 thAAU. There were no family housing units at that time. My understanding is the ASA closed in 1958. I can't verify that. We have a reunion association established where we are in contact with guys who served there from the 40's until 58. We meet annually and have a newsletter published twice a year. This year we meet in Pittsburgh, PA May 1 & 2. For more info contact me by email, rdix6726@bellsouth.net or snail mail Richard Dixon, 6128 17th Ave.,Meridian, MS 39305
  • When I got out in 1983 The 125th Signal Bn & ASA were still continuing on.. We had the Housing units, water tower, Ha Ha,,,, The 125th Signal was an attachment with ASA and we shared the same Helemano base & motor pool & EMS (Elect. Maint. sec). And a Battalion Headquarters building. We were Headquarters,Headquarters Company.=HHC 125th Signal.. I believe in 2005 the Signal /ASA Attachment was dissolved from Helemano.
  • Aloha Andres, served in HI with 602nd ASA Detachment summer of 71 thru spring of 74. I too stayed after separation and currently live between Maui and Fiji. Found Fiji to be much more Hawaii like than anything I experienced in Hawaii... just listening to all the old timers from way back and have a home in Fiji, just go back and forth between the two... I came from Oregon into the service and fell in love with Aloha-land. Be well A.J., BulaBob Kutz
  • Actually A.J., you probably saw me and my friends while you were there. On any given Sunday we were parked across from the motor-pool and out in the bush with our dirt bikes... sometimes would ride all the way to Kahuku training area without using roads... good time man, not riding too much dirt anymore as there is not too many places on Maui to ride. Still out and riding my Harleys tho... Old Coots On Scoots ~ old school rules! Cheers, Bob
  • No way yepp I remember you all going out into Kahuku I now stay on the big island
  • Cool, I have a vacant property just across the Wailuku River from Hilo Post Office and Hospital. Kind of looking to trade it for something up Kaahumanu City up Saddle Road. Like living at higher elevations, Makawao on Maui, 2,000' is just about perfect and think that's just about what K. City is located at. Well nice chatting Andrew, selling home in Fiji and gonna make Big Island my home away from home... much closer and plenty bike riding over there... still have many friends from when I lived over there in the 70's. Be well, aloha nui loa, Bob
  • moved on base probably 58 and were the first families to move into base housing.
  • hey andrew i served with B co, 125th sig from 1981-1984, lived in wailua, wasn't much housing at helemano back then
  • In 1963 I enlisted in the Army Reserve at Fort DeRussy. After graduating high school at Kalani High, I served my six months active duty (including Basic Combat Training) at Schofield Barracks (Co C, 1st Bn, 69th Armor). I'm almost positive that what is now Helemano military housing, was then (1963) an Army basic training facility for Hawaii Army National Guard, Army Reservists, and some, if not all Hawaii draftees. The long building in the rear (north) was a three story, four men to a room, barracks. The enclosed stairwell on the end was completely open in 1963. If anyone can corroborate my thinking here, I'd appreciate hearing from you. jmgunson@comcast.net

My first Commander there in 79 Was Culp..... My 1st seargent Ellis......Hope you find some one closer to your service time... Aloha
  • Aloha Don, originally we were in quad C at Schofield... then Helemano... I was company clerk from 71 ~ 74. In the past I had kept in touch with a few mates but Dan Ux is the only one that now stays in touch. I can't really put a face to your name but we must have known each other since it was such a small unit. Cheers mate, Bob Kutz
