The Chicago Spire (formerly called the Fordham Spire), designed by Santiago Calatrava, was to have been a 2000 foot, 150 story building with 1,193 condominiums. Construction was canceled in 2010, though no work had been done since the base was excavated in 2008. All that remains of the project is the circular pit in the ground.
The site was then subject to years of litigation, then in 2018, plans were announced to build two skyscrapers, (875 and 765 feet tall) consisting of 300 condominiums, 550 apartments, and a 175-room luxury hotel. Official groundbreaking on the new construction occurred June 18, 2024 with expected completion in 2027.

  • The design looks like a giant baguette!
  • Preferred local nicknames (if it is ever built) are 'The Corncob" and "The Twizzler"
