Located in Portage, Indiana, Beta Steel is a steel mini-mill specialized in the production and sale of hot rolled coil in the north central United States and Canada. The Company operates an electric arc furnace melt shop that produces continuous cast steel slabs and a hot strip rolling mill for further processing of slabs into flat rolled steel products.

In October 2008, Beta Steel Corp began a new chapter in its history with its 100% acquisition by Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK), a world class steel producer with operations spanning mining, steelmaking and rolling. NLMK is a vertically integrated steel producer with main production facilities in Lipetsk, Russia and a significant manufacturing presence around the world.
