The Sometimes Islands are a collection of four islands that rise over the water level of Lake Travis during dry periods. The highest of these rises 658 feet above sea level; the "full" height of Lake Travis is 681 feet, or 23 feet above the highest of the Sometimes Islands. Due to an extended drought period which began in 2011, the lowered level of Lake Travis has allowed for land to stretch from Mansfield Dam Park northeastward to near the original banks of the Colorado River prior to the construction of Mansfield Dam, creating a peninsula.
