The original Terminal 8 was completed in 1960 and originally known as the American Airlines Terminal. It was easily recognizable by its colorful stained-glass façade fabricated by Bendheim Architectural Glass to a design by American artist Robert Sowers.

It had fifteen gates on two concourses, A (gates 1-10) and B (gates 20-24). Plans called for the destruction of Terminal 8 beginning in 2007, to be replaced with a new wing of American's new terminal. The stained-glass facade is unfortunately not considered historically significant, but in lieu of it being simply knocked down, was disassembled and sold as architectural salvage by Olde Good Things.
