Built in 1964, Fire Station #1 is not only the oldest existing fire hall in Saskatoon, it is also the largest with four battalions of 16 firefighters, 3 lieutenants and 1 captain staffing the facility 24 hours a day. Fire Station #1 provides emergency services for Saskatoon’s downtown core including river rescue, and is the administrative centre for Saskatoon Fire & Protective Services.

This was the former site of the City Market and Weigh Scales building and Fire Hall No. 2. Built in 1911, the public market proved popular with Saskatonians, although it was privatized in 1923. Auctions of livestock took place in the corral space north of the market. Among those auctioneers was H.T. Rose, whose descendents continued the business as Rose's Auction on Avenue B South. The market building was torn down in 1963 to make way for the present fire station.
