The center was constructed in 1971 by the Toledo Health And Retiree Center with 216 beds. Founded in 1955 by local labor unions with major sponsorship from the U.A.W., the Toledo Health And Retiree Center was an non-profit organization established to provide health services. Starting with a non-profit medical clinic in 1955, the Toledo Health And Retiree Center grew in the 1970s to provide nursing care and housing.
In 1978 the nursing home facility was leased to Lucas Care Facilities. In 1990 following a change in ownership the nursing home was remodeled and the number of beds reduced to 136.
