this is the House of Baccarat but for well over a hundred years this was the site of a pharmacy. From 1832 until the early 20th century this was the old Nikolskiy Pharmacy of Ferrein and sons. Earlier this was the 'pharmacy at Nikolskiy gate', founded in 1701 with the permission of Peter the Great following a decree in the same year which promoted the development of private chemist businesses in the struggle against harmful medicines. A. E. Erikson, an architect constructed this eclectic modern style building in 1894-1899 for the V. K. Ferrein chemical bacteriological laboratory.

Since 2008 this has been the boutique Baccarat Crystal Room and a restaurant with the same name. Baccarat, one of the most expensive and well-known makers of crystal whose brand name has produced house décor, chandeliers, dishes and intricate ornaments from cut crystal since the time of Louis XV was among the suppliers to the court of Tsar Nikolai II.
