This is an Image House built by King Parakramabahu I (1153 -1186 AD). It is named ‘Thivanka’ (Sinhala language) due to three bends that are seen in the Buddha image (built of brick and stucco). He inner walls are adorned with wall paintings depicting Buddhist teachings / stories connected to the life of Buddha.
