The port of Bratislava is the biggest Slovak port. It lies in the middle part of the waterway Rhine-Main-Danube near two capital cities: Vienna and Budapest. It is situated on the left bank of the Danube in the south-east part of Bratislava between river kilometres 1865 and 1867. It spreads out on the area 205 hectares which of water areas are 48 hectares and a land for a next development of the port is 30 hectares.
Transfer areas of the port are divided into eight transfer sectors of which seven sectors are being used for transshipment of bulk goods and one sector is being used for transfer of liquid goods.
The territory of the port consists of two parts: the winter port (an old part of the port) and the port of Pálenisko (a new part of the port).
Transshipment capacity of the port of Bratislava is between 3.5 and 4.0 million tons of goods for a year.
