  • Shell Colony was really a Shell for us - one of very old colonies the ground, samaj hall, Ganapathy celebration all makes me very nostalgic even now. I miss this place. Shell Colony & Mumbai is very special and even after many yrs. of being in Delhi, I am still a Mumbaikar. alka_murugesan@rediffmail.com
  • Nostalgia written all over it, my parents quit Chembur for Chennai in 1985, since then I've never lost an opportunity to go back to Shell Colony , be it Republic Day celebrations , Ganapathy , Navratri or Ayyappa pooja. Would attribute all of this more to my childhood pals , some of'em who still reside there and others who've moved on but still make it a point to visit this place. How can one forget our childhood and teen days with Sridhar , Ajit Waghmare , Narayan, Babu , Pradeep,Nitin, Pakki, Jiten, Sunil, Mr. Anchan ,Chonga,Vivek,Raju, Dhanno and many more. We may regret many other things we could have done or otherwise in life ..no one can ever regret life in Shell Colony. I am writing this on a cold nite out here in New York .
  • heyy...ravi.....i know..Dhanno, in 1985 i am 10 years old...her family stays near by my bldg...i m in 25 no. bldg...soo....anywayss....
  • Its that small town in the Heart of big city i lived in many years back. It has all that Ravi and alka said. I still go there as my dr. brother stays in 'new building' which are almost 35 year old now. The locale is changing fast and a bit of unfreindly, non caring atmosphere is in the air. Some tall buildings are also rising. The question is if civic amenities built for small population would support them? With problem of rain water clogging due to Tilak Nagar Terminas (acted as reservoir) and closure of outward drainage due to buldings in Kamgar Nagar, The place is turning into just another trap where unhappy souls woud roam.
  • I couldn't hv said it better Ravi, Shell colony really was the kind of place i'd want my children to grow up in what with all the diverse cultures around us and the friendly lively atmosphere. I still miss my neighbours and frnds Tanu, anita, deepali arun, akka, shashi anna,sybil-cecil. My parents moved on to Mira rd in the year 1991 havent been to chembur since then. Miss it a lot and my bro Rizwan too longs for the days we spent there.
  • hi this is nanu (anand puranik).i miss shell colony & the atmosphere of those days of my childhood.football ground football matches.also i miss jambul trees peru trees.i was staying in 17 nmbr bulding imiss all
  • Hi all in Shell, I lived in Sahakar Nagar no.2 (Shantinagar)...born and brought up in Shell. I now live in Sydney Australia . Still very nostalgic about the good old Shell colony days. have always missed the Ayyappan festival and remembering the Independence day and republic day parades around the colony with the flags and the sweets distributed thereafter. remembering the sports day in the Shell colony grounds and remembering all my neighbours and others...Kannan& sunder Parmeswaran, Mamata & sujata Prabhu, prema George whom i am still intouch with in Kuwait and all her sisters, Shirin, Mughdha, Banu and other sisters. Jyoti das, amita kale, Radha Mani, kavita and others from bldg no. 20 & 30 My parents left Shell in 1999. I recently got in touch with Aruna adityan. My sis is in U.S and brother here with me in Australia. great writing and getting in touch with Shell.
  • HI PADMAJA, HI ARUNA, how are you all..........great to see you all in this site, I wish all the ex shell and shanti nagar residents would write their memoirs in this site........then we 'll feel that we are taking a walk along the roads of shell...I was in bldg number 32 near brona fernandes house, opposite pravin poduwal of shanti nagar, so many names in my mind, padmaja and myself are still in contact over email, then we had in our building anna, rossy, komalam, sanju ghaisas, next wing latha venkatrmana, geetha, opposite side was rathna and her brothers, ganesh , ramesh, next bldg was veena sheety , who was padmaja and my friend, so many names so many faces none will be ever forgotten, as we were born there....now we can only recall them on line, besides padmaja and myself we had radha mani, medhavini joshy, ameeta kale, all scattered over the world, i hope we can meet on line, i wish my friend in collegge Sapna Talwar reads this message and contacts me, please tell your friends in Shell colony to contribute to this site, Best wishes to all reading this message..........
  • Jitu Divekar bldg 19. A massive re-development is under progress with more than 26 Buildings participating in the process. It is proposed to put up 3-4 Environmental Friendly Green Residential Towers with latest Ammenities which will change the sky line of Shell Colony for good.
  • Hey Jiten, It was nice talking to you after a long time , am not sure even after living all over Mumbai in the latter years Shell Colony and its memories have never gone out of my system. There's hardly a week when there's some reference to Shell at my workplace or with friends in NY. I do see a lot of comments here from people we all know , its good to see messages from Nanu , my sisters , Padmaja ( the last image of her was as a schoolgirl in St Anthony's ) , Prema George the family of athletes a sight to watch on Sports Day.....wow amazing to see all these memories re-visited. Stay in touch !
  • hi all, aruna had mailed me these comments ..........glad to read your contributions, I think half of NY is from mumbai and some percentage from that wud be from shell, do you all have any contact with prem he was in bldg number 1 got married to ameeta kale who was padmaja s and my class mate, glad to also hear of the re development plans at shell, hoping to see many more shell colonites on this site, best wishes to all reading this message .

  • hi all, three months ago i had put up a message in this site and lastly mentioned to quote from my message "i wish my friend in collegge Sapna Talwar reads this message and contacts me, THE reason to write this is that just a week earlier i came to know Sapna talwar expired but i had no other details , then i contacted many in shell colony thru the net by sending emails to some people who have businesses in shell colony but no one even answered, perhaps they thought its a scam email.....then we contacted femina tailors as sapnas mom stayed in the same building as he, i just spoke to her mom and came to know she expired last dec'07, its a real tragedy for me as she was my close friend in college + we wud go to classes together, it was a sudden attack, three months ago i wanted to contact her thru this site but she was already in a place where no one cud contact her.....MAY her soul Rest in peace...
  • Dear All, I'm delighted to see that "SHELL COLONY" blog is growing by the day. There are many Shellites like me who feel the same way about this great place. Camaraderie among the residents was so good that sometimes it extended beyond the Shell to Shanti nagar and Sahakar Nagars. Shell Colony may not have been swanky like the present day township butthe bonding amongst Shellites brought us close that we still remember. Padmaja - were u working with Bharat Petroleum and if am correct your sister is Shailaja. Sheba Samuel am I correct ? So many whom I had known have chronicled their feelings on this blog, it feels so great. As my brother (Ravi) and sistern (Aruna) have rightly said this place makes us nostalgic. Even now every yr., during Ganesh Chaturthi(in Delhi no trace of it) I'm reminded of Shell Colony Samaj Hall, the celebrations and films being screened. Be it Ayappa Puja, Navratri we all came together to celebrate the same. Sports Day reminds me of Uchil Uncle and Anchan Uncle, who were brain behind this event. The foot ball match where Lalya was the star player. I walk down the memory lane and it makes me so very happy. Wonder where is Kamini (sprint queen) and Padmini, Joan, Anita (neighbour of Sundar, Ganesh and Ramesh Padmabhan). I don't recall Sapna Talwar am sad to learn of her tragic death.I feel we must take this forward and must have a reunion event. All of you think it over. Regards Alka (Bldg. 12)
  • hi alka........how are u, i just returned from kerela , i was in touch with aruna , we wud speak over the phone some days...how are u?

  • Hi everybody, recently i had been to Mumbai for St. Anthony's reunion and I would like to thank Jiten who along with my brother coordinated and made arrangements for my stay in Acres Club which was pleasant. Kind of you Jiten to help me out. I had visited Shelly colony to show my daughter the place where we lived and enjoyed. I found that revamping is in progress and building number 11 and 12 were demolished and work was on. There is lot of change in Shell Colony while shopping in Chembur was surprised to see the Society General Stores, Sawan Bazaar, Jenny photo studio et al still there. I was really happy to meet our old family friends from Building 12, (Salauddin and family whom i met after a gap of 20 years). I stayed with them for 2 days and my stay with them was a memorable one.

  • Has the Mhada Registrar of Societies and Godrej Properties and Kamla Landmarc Property checked the eligibility of the Individual Society Managing Committee members ? Managing Committee members (mostly nominated not elected) who have become signatories of this Shell Colony, Sahakar Nagar, Chembur, Mumbai redevelopment project having more than two children are not even eligible to be a member of the Managing Committee under (Section 73-FF & 144-E) ? If not checked it will be a violation of society rules on the part of : Mhada Registrar of Societies and the legal advisers of Godrej Properties and Kamla Landmarc Property.
