Niamatpur Upazila (Naogaon district) with an area of 448.60 sq km, is bounded by porsha upazila on the north, Tanore and Nachole upazilas on the south, Manda and Mahadevpur upazilas on the east, Gomastapur and Nachole upazilas on the west. Main river is Shiba.

Niamatpur town is located at 24.8330865N 88.5719921E. Niamatpur (Town) consists of 9 wards and 12 mahallas. The area of the town is 3.01 sq km. It has a population of 17207; male 53.26%, female 46.74%. Literacy rate among the town people is 46.3%. It has two dakbungalows.

Niamatpur thana, now an upazila, was established in 1918. It consists of 8 union parishads, 317 mouzas, 335 villages.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Population 193197; male 50.37%, female 49.63%. Muslim 76.41%, Hindu 17.54%, tribals and others 6.05%; ethnic nationals: Santal.
