  • I left Bethlehem Public school in 1987 after completing 8th grade. I was reading on the blog about our teachers who we most often referred as “mean spirited”, due to their ideology and deed of corporal punishment such as teacher Aseffa, teacher GG, teacher Negusi and teacher Anmaw-at the early years of my schooling. Even though, at that time the punishment seems angering and excessive, I feel like the way our teachers instilled a higher standard of moral values, made us who we are today for most of us. Although I am not a parent yet, you have no clue how many times, I though about coming back to Ethiopia and send my children to Bethlehem School to have them the kind of upbringing as we all had. I also would link to congratulate teacher Aseffa for the new position. Long Live Bethlehem!
  • 1992 GC 8th Grade - Section "B". Went there from KG-8th Grade. So manyy memories in there that I never had in any of the schools I was in after that. Anybody from my class ? Teacher China (Si'el astemari), Samuel Jininu & the other, Nigussie, Zewdu, Anmaw ena Ye Amarigna Felitoch, Tamiru, Demise, Demsis, Hagos, Solomon, Unit Meri - Woldegebriel, Tadesse ("Burges" who unfortunately has passed away some years ago), The "Mogzit"s whom we used to Call "teacher" even if they weren't..Almaz, Shewaye...,our Light Blue Report card with two Doves, Even the trees outside the school with the purple flowers...."koroko bet", "unit Biro", "Ma'iekel", Library teacher kassu, "Staff", "Biro", "Meda", our student volley Ball group with their light blue stripe Mal-ya, "Self", "sene 30".......I miss each and every thing.....
  • I was really surprised when I found this site. It is a pleasure to recall our past memories. I love Bethlehem to death. My sweet foundation! (KG – 8th Grade) I was a kind of awful student up until I went to Yekatit 12(Menen). I am grateful for those instructors who led our life to the right path. Teacher China, Hagos, Genet, Samuel Jeninu, Enanu, ….. Some of my class mates whom I am luck to be with .. Solomon, Nathnael, Brook, Eyoel Wedaj, Fisseha Woubishet, …….. He messed up my life with mathematics. I always blame him wherever I had a problem in math’s. He send me out from his math class and I become short in math. Assefa led me the wrong direction and let me hate mathematics. Please do not let students to frustrate and hate subjects…….. LONG LIVE WITH BETHELHEM!
  • Me too, I don't forget the school...Teacher negussie, and Almaz also the one who always keeps us away from the new building in lunch time. Any body remember Teacher Demessie, math teacher, better known as SUBSET. His lower lip was bigger than the upper one, so the upper is a subset of the lower :) what a nice way to remember the concept of subset at 7th grade. And yes, the guard man MAMO, he also used to be called 40 kenefer, he used to have this big upper lips...from 1992/93 batch...

  • I left betlhem at the age of 5:( sad.. But the memories stay with me ,,,,,,I remember teacher sissy ( my favorite ) Anmew, and the ladies who was there for us as a baby sitter. Almaz ? Wow been long time ,but I still have their pic. God !! I dont believe I am on this site. I am sure most of you don't remember me but you will always remember the padel inside the admin office :) huuuu was bad!!!!! My elder brothe fikru was very famous. , I don't know if ant of you remember him coz we left the school when derg took over. I remember the cite face of my friend meskerem.. ... Aida niyzgui ,giddy gugsa,genet abebe,... A great memory ..isnt ??. On a lighter note , my uncle Tedros ( the owner of the school) has passed away 7 years ago. He loved giving education .after derg took away the school ,he opened another school lower standard comparing betlhem ,continued serving till the last day of him life.

  • wow it is with a grin on my face i went through all the messages, most of you are my juniors, i am really astounded to read all the memories that coincided with me. i had the privilege of meeting with some of the teacher like teacher HAGOS and KETEMA, and i was astonished by the way they look. MAN they never get old, it even got me to consider a career in teaching. Any how i am truly happy to come across to this page and i wish there is a page we could keep in touch and meet all our old friend. The memories lives on, GOD BE WITH YOU ALL!!
  • It is interesting to find this site and learn a few of familiar names which I can recall. I left Bethlehem School in 1980. I was a student from pre-K to 8th grade. I remember Ato Tewodros, Ms. Monn, Ato Hailu, Ato Anemaw, W/o. Teruwork etc... I have vivid memory now. it has been 34 years since I left the school, and 27 years since I left Ethiopia. I learned Ato Tewodros' passing from one of the comments above. My heart goes out to his family. He was a good man. I was a good student and kin in some sense. My name is Elias Desta. Some of my class mates were Yoftahe Asfaw (I heard works for Ethiopian Airlines now), Tewodros Mekonnen (may be lives in USA), Elizabeth Nega (lives in the US, may be), Estifanos Derozeris, Estifanos Tefera (mate him in Washington DC, 27 years ago, lost track of him), Yemanehe Berehe (last time I talk to him, left for Greece, i.e., 29 years ago), and a few other names. I love to hear from some of my classmates. Currently, I am residing in USA. Good forum to start my lost childhood friends.
