A picturesque mountain lake, perched on the rim of the Chicago canyon. The Echo Lake Lodge, a classic log cabin structure, has an on-again off-again history as a hotel and restaurant. A hiking trail runs around most of the lake, but part of the trail is walking directly on the highwaw shoulder, which can be troublesome during fishing season as people park on the highway shoulder to fish.

In 1985 a Human powered speed attempt was made here. The team reasoned that an ice/skate bike would be more efficient then a bike with spinning wheels. The ice was too rough for their drive to transfer power to the ice.
