The building was built in 1919 as a storehouse for South Brooklyn Fleet Supply Base, Third Naval District. It has been vacant since 2000 and the New York City Economic Development Corporation is currently trying to lure small manufacturers to the site for the federal government which currently owns the building. There are 1.1 million square feet in the eight story structure. An earlier bid to purchase the building was derailed by the economic downturn.
