Cherry Tree, Pennsylvania

USA / Pennsylvania / Cherry Tree /
 municipality, borough, third-level administrative division

Cherry Tree was once known as "Canoe Place" because it marked the upper limit of canoe navigation on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. The current name, officially adopted in 1907 but in informal use long before that, comes from an actual cherry tree that stood at the confluence of Cush Cushion Creek and the West Branch of the Susquehanna. The "Purchase Line" that divided Indian from British Colonial lands extended from this tree westward to the Allegheny River at what is now Kittanning, Pennsylvania.
