This is a hōlua course, used in the extremely dangerous toboggan-like activity restricted to the aliʻi class of men, the nobility of Ancient Hawaii. There are several hōlua on the Big Island, most notably the Keauhou Slide, but this is the only one on Oahu. It is mostly unknown, as it was only briefly exposed during the brush fires in 2002. Professor Tom "Pohaku" Stone at the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Center for Hawaiian Studies will have more information.
