place with historical importance, 1850s construction, railway museum
The Grand Trunk Western Railroad Mt. Clemens Station was completed in 1859. A young Thomas Edison was taught railroad telegraphy here after saving station agent's J.U. Mackenzie's son from getting struck by a train. The station continued to operate as a railroad station all the way into 1980, when it became a museum. Exhibits and a gift shop are housed in the building, which has been restored to a circa-1900 appearance.
