Built from 1924 to 1927, by Marjorie Merriweather Post, who, upon her death in 1973, willed the 17-acre estate to the U.S. Government as a retreat for Presidents and visiting foreign dignitaries. When upkeep was deemed too expensive, ownership was transferred back to Mrs. Post’s daughters, who unloaded it to Donald Trump for less than $10 million in 1985. Strangely, the "retreat for Presidents and foreign dignitaries" came back into usage during Trump's presidency from 2017-2021. Following his exit from the White House in 2021, the resort became the former president's new residence.
