ghost town, historic ruins
Little is known about Sundad but a popular theory is that it was a failed tuberculosis sanitarium founded in the 1920s. Most likely, it is a mining camp associated with the nearby Sundad gold mine that was located in 1930. Aerial photos show a cluster of small buildings here as early as 1947 that disappeared between 1962 and 1980; a Mr. R. Agin purchased the Sundad gold mine during that time span and may be why the buildings were cleared out. The rock art located here was a later addition, created long after the last residents left.
