Sankighatta Dallina Vardamana Mahaveera Thirtankara Jain Basadi/temple
Dallina Vardamana Mahaveera Jain Basadi/temple is very ancient Jain temple in Karnataka. This temple has the metal (Panchaloha) idol of Bhagawan Mahaveera as the main deity.
Mahaveer Swamy's beautiful idol looks like a golden colored little boy standing with smiling face, which an unique Mahaveer Thirtankara idol. The original Black stone idol is damaged and was replaced by the metal idol at the end of 19th century. We can see the old black stone idol behind the metal idol.
Devotees from different parts of the state visit this place and offer special prayers. This is on the way to Sravanabelagola from Bangalore (Before Kunigal).
The temple was built by Hoysala King Narasimha I (1141 AD –1173).
In 15th century a poet by name Dharmadikari Chikka Padmanna Settaru from Sankighatta has done Kannada Jain literature work like Ananthanata charita and Vajrakumara charita.
His family descendants still lives in the same village, they are called Settaru Maneyavaru (Settaru Family).
Settaru Family was the patrons and the care taker (Dharmdikari) of this Jain temple and had the responsibility to taken care of the temple from the time it was built.
Dharmadakaris of the temple like Settaru Vardamanaiah, Settaru Jawallanaiah, Settaru Adirajaiah and Settaru Padmarajaiah was the last person to deliver the responsibility of the Jain temple and he handed over the Jain temple keys, roles and responsibility with a written document to Magadi taluk administrator (Tahsildar) around 1950. The family still continues the same belonging and respect towards the Jain temple.
Settaru family members still live in Sankighatta and many of the family members are in Bangalore and out of India. The family is well respected in the Sankighatta Jain samaj.
Even now every year Settaru family members were the first to performs Jain rituals on the month long festival starts on Karthika Amavase (Mahaveer Swamy Moksha Kalyana day) Diwali day.
Now the temple is under Karnataka muzari and Sankighatta Jain samaja is really doing good work for the temple. There are nearly thirty Jain families live in Sankighatta.
