candy shop, ice cream parlor
Renowned ice cream parlor.
AOL City's Best review: "You'll feel like you stepped back in time upon entering this classic ice-cream parlor that's been around since 1921. The family-owned business still has trinkets from the old days, including family photos, miniature jukeboxes and signs. But the main attraction is the ice cream, homemade and hand-packed. Open year round, longtime customers and the newly gentrified Bucktown community come out for hefty portions of banana splits, sundaes, shakes and other fountain creations. For $35, customers can eat the largest turtle sundae. For $50, you and some friends -- and some homeless people -- can snack on the Royal George. Named after Margie's grandson, it consists of 25 scoops of ice cream and everything in the store from English toffee to fudge to strawberries, bananas and much more. The little place offers plenty of seats, including several roomy, Formica booths lining the walls. Classic tunes, from the Andrew Sisters to Elvis, set an old-fashioned atmosphere. Margie's also serves diner food like burgers and fries, as well as homemade candies and chocolates. -- Audarshia Townsend " cityguide.aol.com/chicago/restaurants/margies-candies/v...
