Bochaganj Upazila (dinajpur district) with an area of 224.81 sq km is bounded by birganj and pirganj upazilas on the north, biral upazila on the south, Birganj, kaharole and Biral upazilas on the east, and Pirganj upazila on the west. tangon is the main river.

The location of Bochaganj town is 25.8000°N 88.4611°E at a place more known as Setabganj. Bochaganj (Town) consists of 3 mouzas. Its area is 9.21 sq km. It has a population of 20477; male 52.68%, female 47.32%; density of population is 2223 per sq km. The literacy rate among the town people is 41.9%. It has 2 dakbungalows.

Bochaganj thana was established in 1915 and was turned into an upazila in 1984. It consists of 6 union parishads, 144 mouzas and 146 villages.

As of 1991 Bangladesh census, Population 135376; male 51.77% and female 48.23%; Muslim 60.24%, Hindu 37.75%, Christian 0.49% and others 1.52%.
