The Coral Gables Branch Library is in the heart of Coral Gables, a dynamic multiethnic city with historical, tropical flavor. The 28,000 square-foot library building built in 1969 blends contemporary design with Mediterranean influence. Honduran mahogany doors, wrought-iron Spanish chandeliers and a spacious lobby with red tile floors carry out the Spanish atmosphere. The Children’s Room is the proud home of an original set of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls donated by the wife of author Johnny Gruelle. Computers in the library access online databases and the library catalog, and enable library patrons to surf the Internet and type reports and resumes. Outside, lush tropical landscaping includes a butterfly garden with benches that encourage visitors to enjoy the South Florida weather.
