OMNI/Historic Miramar Neighborhood (Miami, Florida)

USA / Florida / Miami / Miami, Florida

In the early part of the twentieth century, Miramar ( not to be confused with the city of Miramar in southern Broward County ) was once a neighborhood of grand homes and the City of Miami Cemetery ( where most of Miami's pioneer families have mausoleums, crypts and grave sites ). It was named after the famed Miramar neighorhood in Havana, Cuba. Sadly few remnants are visible of this once elegant neighborhood. Only a few of the houses and a boulevard segment on N.E. 17th Street between Biscayne Boulevard and N.E. 2nd Avenue. Most have been replaced by fast food restaurants, car dealers, warehouses, commercial and high-rise residential buildings.
