English Bay, First Beach/Sunset Beach (Vancouver)

Canada / British Columbia / Vancouver

This is the main beach, starting at the corner of Beach and Davie. Fireworks are hosted off shore directly from this beach. There are a few washrooms, some kayak rentals, and logs for sitting on. At the lower (approximately south-west) corner of the beach, there is a native statue. The sunsets here are awesome, hence the non-official name Sunset Beach.

  • http://members.shaw.ca/cloudwatcher/index_files/sunset_files/image_16.htm beautiful place to relax
  • Lovely area, with public transport and many shops very close by. Often the location of the Celebration of Light fireworks display, usually every summer. Good place to start a walk around Stanley Park, following the SeaWall; total ocean walk (depending on personal pace) is about 2 to 3 hours. Small, narrow beach with hundreds of people on a summer day, even in the middle of the week. There is an occasional police presence, so use of alcoholic drinks and other treats should be discreet. Lots of shopping nearby on Denman and Davie streets.
