The original building on today's Hillsborough High School campus was built in 1928 for a total of $757,000. This building is the most prominent and widely recognized of the structures on campus for its Gothic Revival architecture, massive clock tower, and auditorium with stained-glass windows. The structure is a contributing property to the Seminole Heights Residential District, a national and local historic district.

The building was designed by local architect Francis Kennard.

This location is the fourth campus in the school's history. HHS was established as a school in the 1880's, but did not move to Tampa's Seminole Heights neighborhood until 1928.
