1935 Art Deco entrance gates named after the Auckland Businessman who made them possible. Landmark structure with the well known bronze statue of a naked athlete by Richard Gross. Designed by Gummer & Ford and built of Putararu stone.

William Elliot (c.1864-1934) contributed £4000 of the total £9500 cost for the completion of construction of the Wintergardens in the Auckland Domain [4], as well as £10,000 "for appropriate entrances to the Domain"
