Over 100 acres, south of road from the Mandwa jetty, and of the bridge over the creek are systematically being drained of the sea water and steel sluice gates have been erected to hold the high tide waters out. During the monsoons, large electrical water pumps (with over 12" diameter)are installed to help in draining the water, with the help of electric generators mounted on mobile generator vans.
Already over half the mangroves are dead, and the local collecterate, forest department and other authorities seems to be blissfully unaware.

  • The entire mangroves on the costal belt of Vashi - Panvel have been distroyed over a period of 5 - 6 years. and all now remaining is concrete jungles. Now the new airport, SEZ and townships to come here. See no one will understand the situation ow. After 20 years or so think of people fighting for drinking water , dont be surprised, thats going to happen, because of all these urbanisation.
