The UBC Research Forest is a controlled logging environment where different groups, from UBC Students, to logging companies do studies on trees and tree growth. It is a logged forest, but logging is controlled. There are many trails in the park for the public to use, from short 15 minute loops, to the challenging lookout loop, which can take more than three hours.

There is also a resort in the forest on the shore of Loon Lake. Corporations, school groups, or summer camps can rent space for a few days for retreats. There is a gym, a dining hall, and a brand new lodge building, as well as a dock and a cable ferry across the lake for trail access.
