NHRP-listed memorial to Alexander Turrey Stewart, designed c. 1877 by Henry G. Harrison with John Kellum. It is the only cathedral in the United States that was funded by a single person, and the only one that is built in memory of a single individual.

  • The cathedral is an imposing building: black with a high main tower and dozens of finials on the tower and along the roof. It is a classic example of Gothic architecture, built in 1876 as a memorial to Alexander Stewart, the founder of Garden City. The cathedral is listed on the National and New York Registers of Historic Places.
