Canadian Coast Guard is a civilian rather than a military organization, being a special operating agency within the Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans. CCG is responsible for icebreaking, Arctic sovereignty, search and rescue, environmental response, marine communication and navigation services, vessel traffic co-ordination, support to fisheries research, and coastal enforcement (together with RCMP).
