The Port Authority of Allegheny County uses this building for Way Department operations (LRV rail maintenance equipment and supplies, railway/busway/site grounds maintenance equipment maintenance and storage, and department supply storage). Formerly on this site was the "Tunnel" car barn of the Pittsburgh Railways trolley system (a Port Authority predecessor). Tunnel barn was the car storage facility for many, and eventually all, South Side trolley lines. It was demolished in the mid-1980s and replaced by this building.
