The land for the Cathedral was bought in 1920. Eight architects were invited to submit plans for the new cathedral. The plans submitted by Mr. Med were finally selected but some modifications in the façade were required and these the architect subsequently effected. The foundation stone for the Cathedral was laid by Most. Rev. E. Vanni, the Archbishop of Agra, in 1929, and the work started in 1930.
