Thirukalyana Matha Church (Pothakalan Vilai)

Christianithy was planted at Pothakalan Vilai by St. Thomas. French missionaries enabled the people to have devotion to Our Lady of Betrothal around 1540 and celebrated the feaast every year on the 23rd January. A new church behind the Church of St. Aloysius and St. Ignetius was constructed in honour of Our Lady of Betrothal in 1835 This church is called "Thirukalyana Matha" from 1949. This is the only church in the world with the name "Thirukalyana Matha" and celebrates the feast of Our Lady Betrothal.
