Phulpur Upazila of Mymensingh district with an area of 580.21 sq km, is bounded by Haluaghat and Dhobaura upazilas on the north, Mymensingh sadar upazila on the south, Gauripur and Purbadhala upazilas on the east, Nakla upazila on the west. Main rivers are Kharia and Kangsha.
The geographic coordinates of Phulpur town are 24.94775N 90.3591615E degree. Phulpur (Town) consists of 6 mouzas. The town has a population of 12292; male 52.63%, female 47.37%; literacy rate among the town people is 36.7%.
Phulpur thana was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of 20 union parishads, 377 mouzas and 411 villages.
As of 1991 Bangladesh census, population 459046; male 50.98%, female 49.02%; Muslim 95.21%, Hindu 4.29%, Buddhist 0.05%, Christian 0.23% and others 0.22%; notable ethnic nationals: Garo.
Average literacy 20.90%; male 25.90% and female 15.60%. Educational institutions: college 6, high school 48, madrasa 188, government primary school 133, non-government primary school 94, community school 5, satellite school 10.
Religious institutions: Mosque 326, temple 40, church 5 and tomb 5, most noted of which are Phulpur Bus Stand Jami mosque, Tarakandha Jami mosque,
