An 8th Street landmark, this walk-up Dairy Queen was run by the same family for some 40 years. Norman and Emma Kemp acquired the franchise in the 1970s. Norman died in 1984 and Emma continued to run the business up until a year before her death in 2015, at age 95. It is now owned by her nephew, Don Kardash. The Kemps owned the Nite Hawk, Saskatoon's first drive-in restaurant. They left to join Dairy Queen in 1956 and opened a location on 20th Street. They left that location in the 1960s to focus on the 8th Street business.

This Dairy Queen used to only open in the summer, but now is open almost year-round except the coldest months of winter. It's Saskatoon's only remaining walk-up DQ.
