Beside the Westpoort is an ancient yew known as Caesarsboom (Caesar's tree). According to local legend, Julius Caesar on his trip to Britain hitched his horse to the tree and took a nap in its shade. It is not proven that the emperor ever did pass this way, or that the tree even existed at the time.
