Abe Lebewohl was the owner of the 2nd Avenue Deli which for more than 50 years was situated kitty-corner from the park. Mr. Lebewohl was murdered in 1996 while taking the restaurants money to be deposited. The restaurant was closed in 2007 and later relocated to East 33rd Street.
