Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church is the city's oldest African-American congregation. It was founded in 1844 and officially organized in 1847.
The original church burned in the Great Chicago Fire, and the congregation met in temporary quarters until the church was completed in 1891.
Designated as a Chicago Landmark in 1977, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
