Akron's historic 89-year old mansion, and former home of rubber magnate F. A. Seiberling, is a feast for the eyes. The civic-minded Seiberling family entertained often at their gorgeous estate, with guests including Helen Keller, Will Rogers, and the Von Trapp family. The glorious 65-room Tudor mansion, created by Clevelander Charles Schneider, was designed as homage to old English estates. While the furnishings and structure of Stan Hywet took a page from English history, the house includes modern accoutrements such as an impressive 37-station automatic telephone system. The grounds have a scenic view of the Cuyahoga Valley unlike any other in Akron.
