Mesîf or Selahedîn (Arabic: Maseef or Salah Al-Din) is a small city located 30 Km North-East of Erbil, in the Permaam mountains. It's population now is around 15,000. The town is divided in to two parts, orignal Maseefyans and the new comers Barzanis. The PDK party's offices are in the town.

History:

The history of the city goes back to at last1920s, when a New Zealand engineer Sir Hamilton designed a roadway from Erbil to Haji-Omran at Iran's border, which is one of the most important and vital roadways in Kurdistan (185km long). The construction started in 1928 and finished in 1932. In 1939,the Iraqi government decided to build a new tourist settlement on Permaam mountain,and authorized Salih Zake, the governor of Erbil at that time to execute the plan. The Governor called the new town Salah Al-Din for his lover's son's name. In 1952, his lover's son,Salah Al-Din was first mayor of the new city.
