Northrop Auditorium (Minneapolis, Minnesota)

USA / Minnesota / Lauderdale / Minneapolis, Minnesota
 cafe, auditorium, interesting place

The main auditorium on the University of Minnesota campus, arguably it's signature building.

Built in 1929, the auditorium was closed so it could undergo a major, multi-year (2011-14) renovation before reopening in 2014. This renovation shrank the auditorium and improved all aspects of the audience experience. It also created an addition to the back of the auditorium, including adding a class space, conference room, and rehearsal room. The shrinking of the auditorium also allowed for new office space on the sides of the building, which now houses the Institute for Advanced Study at University of Minnesota, the University Honors Program, as well as a cafe.

Named after former University of Minnesota President Cyrus Northrop (no "u" in the name)

Inscribed on the south exterior of the building, readable from the mall is the phrase:
The University of Minnesota: Founded in the Faith that Men are Ennobled by Understanding; Dedicated to the Advancement of Learning and the Search for Truth; Devoted to the Instruction of Youth and the Welfare of the State. (punctuation added for clarity)
