archaeological site, paleontological site
At this former gravel quarry T2, the famous Boy Paleontologists found Ice Age fossils including the Irvington sabercat, the giant short-faced cave bear (Arctodus simas yukonensis), and other mammals. The dig also found three new species: the Irvington mouse, Irvington coyote, and Irvington four-pronged antelope. This site now lies under Interstate Highway 680.
