It was established in the year 1970. It is affiliated to Mother Teresa Women's University, Kodaikanal.
It is located 8 kms away from Palani town on Coimbatore road.It is situated in an area of 40 acres.
It has been accreditted by the NAAC with B++ in the year 2002-2003.
It has been conferred with the Autonomous Status in 2004-2005.
It caters to the needs of rural women students. It offers 13 U.G. Courses and 7 P.G. Courses, including 3 Self – supporting Courses. Four Departments have upgraded themselves as Research Centres.

v Goals and objectives of the College
The main objective of the college is to provide University Education to all women students in and around Palani, hailing from economically backward and socially marginalized communities from villages. Students are admitted as per the Government norms.
The college aims to train young women to be good citizens and leaders in all walks of life. Higher education offered to women students empowers them with knowledge and skills in communication and computer literacy. The co-curricular and extra curricular programmes are intended to mould the young women as model citizens. The college fosters an atmosphere for intellectual pursuits, moral endeavour and research culture. The four mantras become the incantation to speed up the progress in women education, women empowerment, Model citizen and Self Reliance

Based on the recommendations of the Expert Committee, the Commission agreed to grant autonomous status to the following Colleges for the period as mentioned below:

APACW became an autonomous college in 2004 and continues to be affiliated to the Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal. It enjoys the freedom of framing its own courses and adopting innovative methods in teaching learning and evaluation. The degrees are conferred by the University, on the students who pass the examinations held by the college.
Highlights of Autonomous Status
Need based syllabus for all courses. Departments are given liberty to choose papers suitable to the need of the situation.
New Papers related to Need based, Value based, Life-oriented, Society oriented and Job-oriented courses are introduced in the Common Academic structure.
Orientation is given to the freshers about the Semester System, various Associations, Student's support services, curricular and extra curricular activities, ward system, facilities available in the college campus.
Inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary courses are introduced.
Certificate courses are offered in each department.
Attendance is made strict.
Validity of evaluation is maintained by inviting external examiners.
Continuous internal assessment is done to motivate the students to avoid the eleventh hour preparation.
Time-Table for all three internal Tests is given in advance, by the office of the Controller of Examinaitons.
Common internal Tests are conducted by the controller of Examinations in keeping with the spirit of the External Examinations by proper seating arrangement and by distributing printed question papers.
Seminars in internal assessment make them confident in preparing their papers by answering doubts raised by the classmates.
Students are exposed to external expertise by conducting Seminars and Workshops on Regional, State and National levels.
Teaching and Learning environment is enriched with modern audio-visual aids.
Feedback mechanism is practised to evaluate courses, campus experience and teachers' performance.
Meetings of stakeholders like Alumni and Parents are conducted to get suggestions for quality enhancement.
Personal and Individual counseling are given to the students to overcome their personal difficulties and develop their interests in studies.
Individual attention is rendered to slow learners through counseling.
Students with special talents are identified and encouraged to participate in intercollegiate level competitions and seminars.
IQAC strives to assess, enhance and sustain the quality of Academic endeavors of the college.
