Local lore says that the spring has been active since the days of pioneers trading with the local Indians. A sheet-metal shed (atop stone pilings from earlier structures) covers the spring. A pipe leads to a roadside fill-up. Even in the 2000's, the old spring is still (via water-hauling trucks) the sole source of drinking and cleaning water for some of the more isolated rural houses in the area which were built long ago with cisterns rather than wells or municipal water supply access.
