Yankee Village (New York City, New York)

Historic Yankee Stadium neighborhood. Originally a middle-class, Jewish neighborhood, today it is a diverse working-class neighborhood with a predominant Dominican, Puerto Rican, and African American population. The neighborhood experienced urban neglect during the late 20th century. Today, economic transformation is slowly taking place with the 2009 completion of the "new" Yankee Stadium and surrounding parks, the renovation of the Harlem River Waterfront, and the opening of the Gateway Center, a large shopping complex in the southern fringes.
