Abbey Park (Leicester)

Huge park in Leicester City Centre (almost) with all sorts of things to discover!

Abbey park is the site of Leicester Abbey, an Augustinian house founded in 1143. The abbey was dissolved in 1538 by Henry VIII, and little remains but the ground plan. A full history is at:

The abbey is most remembered as the location of Cardinal Wolsey's death in 1530, as he journeyed back to London to face charges of treason against Henry. Wolsey was buried at the abbey.

There are lots of geese in the park, too.
