Owner/operator : Northeastern Power Cogeneration Facility

The Northeastern Power Cogeneration facility serves the electricity and steam needs of two local entities and was developed due to the abundance of waste anthracite coal, or culm, in the area. The facility consumes 560,000 tons of culm each year and generates 300,000 tons of ash annually, which is used to reclaim an abandoned surface mine nearby.

A single circulating fluidized bed boiler produces steam for both electrical generation and thermal energy to heat a 7acre greenhouse adjacent to the facility. In addition, Northeastern Power Cogeneration provides electricity to the Pennsylvania Power & Light company to meet the energy requirements of the community.
